Chateau d'Armailhac Description

Chateau d'Armailhac is a wine that possesses an almost mystical quality that is hard to put into words. At first glance, the wine presents a deep, garnet-hued red color that is both seductive and mysterious.

As you inhale the aromas, a sense of intensity and sophistication is immediately noticeable, with black fruit aromas leading the way. The aroma is enhanced by subtle notes of vanilla, pepper, and mild spice, creating an alluring complexity.

On the palate, the wine begins with a structured and sappy attack, which transitions smoothly into a creamy, satin-smooth body that is both seductive and luxurious. The black fruit and chocolate flavors blend seamlessly with the well-rounded tannins, creating a perfectly integrated and harmonious palate.

The wine is beautifully balanced, and the floral and licorice notes usher in a long and elegant finish that lingers on the tongue for a satisfying aftertaste. It's a wine that is complex, yet approachable, with a subtle sophistication that sets it apart.

The blend of 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, 9% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Petit Verdot is perfectly balanced, and each grape variety plays its part in creating the wine's unique character. The result is a wine that is both unusual and accurate, with a rich and complex flavor that is sure to delight any wine enthusiast.

Wine Advocate: 93 Points

Another sensational effort from Philippe Dhaluin, the administrator of Mouton Rothschild, this blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc and the rest Petit Verdot shows complex floral notes intermixed with forest floor, camphor, black currants and mulberries that all jump from the glass of this aromatic style of d’Armailhac. This wine possesses very good acidity, a surprisingly higher percentage of Merlot than usual, but the quality is impressive, and the good news is that there are 20,000 cases of this full-bodied beauty, which should age nicely for 15-20+ years.
