Escudo Rojo Chardonnay Reserva is an exquisite wine hailing from the prestigious Valle de Casablanca in Chile. This renowned region, situated 80 km northwest of Santiago and deeply influenced by the Pacific Ocean, is celebrated for producing exceptional Chardonnays. Crafted in the Bordeaux style by the legendary Baron Philippe de Rothschild, this wine exemplifies elegance and refinement.
The vineyards in the Valle de Casablanca were specifically chosen for their mild climate, allowing the grapes to ripen slowly, and their unique soil composition of silty sand and granitic elements that together contribute to the wine's freshness and elegance. As a result, the Chardonnay Reserva boasts a captivating balance of power and finesse, with an impressive harmony between alcohol and acidity.
Half of the vintage is matured for nine months in one-year-old oak barrels, with 25% in new oak and 75% in 1-2 year-old barrels, striking a delicate balance between oaky notes and the wine's inherent fruitiness. The aromatic profile of this Chardonnay Reserva is simply enchanting, with voluptuous tropical fruit and yellow peach aromas at the forefront, followed by subtle hints of gingerbread and toasted brioche.
On the palate, this wine offers a rich and full-bodied experience, showcasing the intense flavors of tropical fruits such as pineapple and passion fruit. The round and dense mid-palate presents a delightful medley of toasted almond, mild spices like cumin and cinnamon, and tropical fruit flavors, culminating in a gracefully long finish accented by notes of toasted hazelnut, mild spice, and pineapple.
The meticulous hand-picking of grapes ensures the preservation of freshness and aromatic potential throughout the vinification process, which is conducted at low temperatures to further enhance these qualities. The Escudo Rojo Chardonnay Reserva is a true testament to the mastery of winemaking and the captivating character of the Valle de Casablanca terroir.
Fresh mineral note to the lemon zest, freshly cut pineapples and hints of herbs. Fresh, mineral and nicely creamy on the medium-bodied palate. Nicely flavorful. Creaminess from the batonnage.
