Glass-staning ruby. Displays intensely perfumed red and blue fruit liqueur, licorice, floral and smoked meat aromas, along with builiding cracked pepper and Moroccan spice qualities. Offers deeply concentrated but impressively lively, mineral-driven cassis, bitter cherry, violet pastille and smoky bacon flavors that turn spicier with aeration. Subtly gripping tannins support a very long, incisive finish that emphatically repeats the floral and blue fruit notes.
First made in 2009, replacing the classic Côte Rôtie, the 2020 Côte Rôtie Colline De Couzou is a beautiful, quintessential Côte Rôtie with its soft, forward, incredibly seductive profile that begs to be drunk. Lots of red and black fruits, classic violets/spring flowers and hints of smoked game and cracked pepper all define the bouquet, and it's medium to full-bodied, with supple tannins and a great finish. It's a big wine, especially for an entry level cuvée, yet the balance is brilliant, and this stays light and elegant. It's well worth seeking out and will evolve for over a decade.
