The 2016 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, like all the Villa S. Anna wines, is a tense, firmly structured wine. Wild dark cherry, underbrush, dried herbs and crushed flowers are some of the many nuances that flesh out in the glass. My impression is that the 2016 will be even better with another few years in bottle.
A blend of 85% Sangiovese with smaller elements of Mammolo, Canaiolo, Colorino and Merlot, the Villa Sant' Anna 2018 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano has dark fruit with rustic spice and tobacco. The aromas are a bit heavy handed, but the wine follows through to the palate with enough medium-bodied concentration for it to make sense.
