Regis Forey makes a range of traditional, old school Pinot Noir in the heart of Vosne-Romanée. His domaine is a total of 10 hectares and includes holdings from Nuits-St-Georges to Morey-St-Denis, and include some top 1er crus in Vosne. But the wines (and Regis himself) are not flashy, and indeed they can take careful cellaring to unlock their full potential.
Most of the vineyards are on the northern side of Vosne bordering Vougeot. The oldest parcel was planted in 1942 and the major portion of this wine is from vines in excess of 40 years of age. Forey ages this wine in a mix of small barrel and demi-muid.
A spicy and distinctly floral-suffused nose combines notes of red cherry, currant and fennel with hints of Asia style tea and a crushed leaf component. Delicious middleweight flavors is also quite rich, indeed opulent, buffers the moderately firm, dusty youthfully austere and balanced if not especially persistent finale.
